“I’m proud of the life that I've built and especially the family that I've gathered around me.

For many queer folks, there is a lot of rebuilding to do after coming out. Reshaping what you believe, what you want, what your community will look like. For me, after coming out and moving to Minneapolis, I started with next to nothing. Just a bag, a 3-month sublease, and one friend that I had in the area (forever grateful for him). The task of rebuilding my life seemed daunting, and at times, impossible.

From there, I have built a career that I love, friends who have become chosen family, a beautiful home, and most importantly, my spouse and our first child due in November 2020. Though it seemed that I had lost everything, with determination, I built a life that I would never have dared to even hope for.

Sometimes, I forget to take a step back, look at how far I have come, and give myself credit for what I've built. It took a lot of work, and I am proud of getting here.”
